What’s in a name

Amazing Life Church
“What’s In A Name?”
Greet People
It has been another awesome week in the presence of
God. I continue to pray for revelation, awakening, and
healing for the land. Every day in His presence I believe
for great things. As I have said many times I believe in
dreaming big, expecting more, and walking in His
Kingdom authority.
Shallow water doesn’t move me. Neither do I preach the
safety and comfort of just simply getting your feet wet
with a watered down theology. The power and presence
of God would call us out from the safety of the boat, the
safety of the shore, and bring us into the depths of His
Kingdom living.
What an awesome experience it is when we realize the
depth of His love and His grace. It is knowing Christ in
that depth, that makes us who we are.
We will go forward with another message on who we
are and what God has done to make us in His image.Page 2
I want to share some thoughts titled, “What’s In A
Name?”
Psalms 91 does not name an author. For thousands of
years the Jewish Doctors of theology have attributed it
to Moses because he wrote Psalms 90. Explain
Satan used portions of this Psalm to tempt Christ in the
wilderness. Please read the entire chapter when you can.
It is awesome.
Psalms 91:1-4 NASB
1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
Will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say to the L ORD , “My refuge and my fortress,
My God, in whom I trust!”
3 For it is He who delivers you from the snare of the
trapper And from the deadly pestilence.
4 He will cover you with His pinions, And under His
wings you may seek refuge; His faithfulness is a shield
and bulwark.
I want to skip down to verse 14.
Psalms 91:14 NASB
Because he has loved Me, therefore I will deliver him;
I will set him securely on high, because he has known
My name.Page 3
What awesome care and protection defined by the
author. Whoever penned this Psalm knew God. It speaks
of shelter, refuge, trust, deliverance, and faithfulness.
Preach-In His Arms
Verse 14 speaks of those who know Him He will deliver
and set them securely on high. Two words need some
attention. The word high comes from a Hebrew word
which means, “inaccessibly high, too high for capture,
and it means to be exalted by God.” The word name
comes from a Hebrew word which means, “reputation,
fame, and glory.”
Preach Preach Preach-An enemy can’t live in my
atmosphere. Preach knowing a name (intimacy)!!!!
This stuff may seem simple but it is something we
overlook all too often. If God cares this much, took this
much intricate detail in our creation, and our protection.
If He lives in us as a loving Father, Redeemer, and
lifelong Spiritual Helper.
Shouldn’t we from time to time evaluate ourselves and
ask if we are living up to His expectations.
OK-On we goPage 4
Psalms 110:1-7 Amplified
1 The L ORD (Father) says to my Lord (the Messiah, His
Son), “Sit at My right hand Until I make Your enemies a
footstool for Your feet [subjugating them into complete
submission].”
2 The L ORD will send the scepter of Your strength from
Zion,(the church) saying, “Rule in the midst of Your
enemies.”
3 Your people will offer themselves willingly [to
participate in Your battle] in the day of Your power;
In the splendor of holiness, from the womb of the dawn,
Your young men are to You as the dew.
4 The L ORD has sworn [an oath] and will not change
His mind: “You are a priest forever According to the
order of Melchizedek.” (Priest and King)-Why?
5 The L ORD is at Your right hand, He will crush kings in
the day of His wrath.
6 He will execute judgment [in overwhelming
punishment] among the nations; He will fill them with
corpses, He will crush the chief men over a broad
country. (prince and power of air)
7 He will drink from the brook by the wayside;
Therefore He will lift up His head [triumphantly].Page 5
Portions of this Psalm are the most quoted words from
the OT in the New. Particularly This sentence, “Sit at
My right hand Until I make Your enemies a footstool for
Your feet.” Peter shared it in his first sermon found in
Acts 2:35. Luke penned it in Luke 20:43, and the writer
of Hebrews in 1:13, and 10:13.
In Psalms the word enemy means to be hostile, either
personally or nationally. Footstool means, to stomp
upon, or footstool. In the NT the passages I mentioned,
the word enemy means, “hated, odious, hateful, hostile,
opposing another.” It is also used to define the devil as
the most bitter enemy of the Divine government.
The word footstool is used metaphorically. “It is taken
from the practice of conquerors who placed their feet on
the necks of their conquered enemies.”
So what is this lengthy history lesson about. Let me read
from the beginning.
Psalms 91:14 NASB
Because he has loved Me, therefore I will deliver him;
I will set him securely on high, because he has known
My name. (name meaning, reputation, fame, and
glory)Page 6
John 14:11-14 NASB
11 Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is
in Me; otherwise believe because of the works
themselves.
12 Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the
works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than
these he will do; because I go to the Father.
13 Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that
the Father may be glorified in the Son.
14 If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it.
The word name in verses 13-14 comes from the Greek
word, (on’om ah), and it is defined this way.
“the name is used for everything which the name
covers, everything the thought or feeling of which is
aroused in the mind by mentioning, hearing,
remembering, the name, i.e. for one’s rank, authority,
interests, pleasure, command, excellences, deeds etc.”
Preach Preach-What does the name of Jesus arouse in
your mind?
Let me share before I close how others responded to His
Name.Page 7
In Jeremiah 20:9, referring to God, the prophet said he
would not speak in His Name. It became a fire shut up
in his bones and he could not hold it in.
Matthew 12:21-the Gentiles find hope In His Name.
Luke 24:47-Repentance and forgiveness to all nations in
His Name.
John 1:12-In His Name those who believe become
children of God.
John 2:23-many believed in His Name because of His
miracles.
John 20:31-You have life in His Name.
Acts 3:16-Faith in His Name brought healing to the
lame man. The 1 st miracle of the new church.
Let me ask you again.
Preach Preach-What does the name of Jesus arouse in
your mind?
